The Henry Schein One API acts as a central integration hub, enabling DSOs to seamlessly connect their tech stack. We’re highlighting the benefits of open architecture – including the ability to work with preferred vendors -- and showcasing real-world examples of improved efficiency and interoperability.

The Ascend Public API has over 700 REST endpoints that allow the DSO to use their data and system in almost any way imaginable.

  • Automation of Repetitive Tasks: Automate routine tasks that you would otherwise perform manually through the UI, improving efficiency and reducing errors
    • Example: User management - A DSO can automate the process of creating new user accounts and adding providers to the system as new practices are acquired or as staff changes occur. This reduces the time spent manually entering information and ensures consistency across the organization.
  • Integration with Other Systems: Build your own seamless integration with other software or services, enabling data exchange and functionality extension beyond the original system – but do it in a secure way that ensures the core functionality in Ascend and enables your differentiating business model.
    • Example: User integration - Several large and small DSOs have integrated their Ascend ledger with different ERP systems and other call center management systems. There are endless possibilities.

  • Batch Processing: Enable bulk data processing or batch operations that would be cumbersome to perform through the UI.
    • Example: Batch processing - DSOs can do batch processing with their internal Datawarehouse and other big data assets

  • Data Access for Analysis: Expose system data to be pulled and analyzed by external tools and facilitate deeper insights and reporting that the UI might not support.
    • Example: Custom reporting - A DSO can use the API to pull large sets of data, such as appointment histories, financial data, and patient demographics, into external business intelligence tools. This allows the organization to create custom reports and dashboards that provide deeper insights into practice performance.

  • Remote Access: Give DSO developers the ability to access and interact with the system remotely without the need to be directly connected to the UI.
    • Example: Remote monitoring - DSOs can enable remote monitoring of their practices' performance metrics, allowing management to stay informed and make decisions from anywhere, without needing direct access to the PMS.

  • Scalability: Enable scalable operations by allowing multiple clients or services to interact with the system simultaneously without relying on a single user interface.
    • Example: Scalability - The Ascend API processes 6 billion API calls per year.
